Greene County High School will be represented by eight musicians in the prestigious Iowa All-State Music Festival later this month. Five choir members and three instrumentalists were selected in auditions held in Harlan Oct. 26.
Senior Logan Hoyt, juniors Kallie Citurs and Parker Willis, and sophomores David Petersen and Victoria Sims were selected for the chorus. This will be Citurs’ third All-State appearance. Freshman Nadia Fisher was named first alternate. Students who were recalled in the audition process but not selected were juniors Annie Palmer and Kayleigh Harrah and freshman Jack Schilling.
Senior Kyann Brown will play bass clarinet and senior Jasmine Mobley will play alto saxophone in the All-State Band. Senior Beth Teusch will play bassoon in the All-State Orchestra. This is the second All-State Festival for Mobley and Teusch.
The chorus will be directed by Sandra Snow, professor of conducting and music education at Michigan State University. Samuel R. Hazo of Pittsburgh, PA, will conduct the band. Hazo is best known as a composer of music for all levels of large ensembles, as well as composing for television, radio and stage. Directing the orchestra will be Stephen Alltop. He is currently music director of the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, and Green Lake Choral Institute.
The 67th annual All-State Music Festival concert will take place Saturday, Nov. 23, in Hilton Coliseum on the Iowa State University campus. Rehearsals will begin Nov. 21. The festival is organized by the Iowa High School Music Association.
